The 1st Exciting Mini Con in Korea 2010

April 30, 2010

The first ISCA Mini Convention in South Korea was held from June 1st to June 4th 2010 at Chereville Hotel in the YangPyung, Kyungki province.

It was the first international caricature convention in Korea, so some broadcasting companies wanted to record the con for a telecast. KBS, which is the major broadcasting company in Korea, and MBN, which is the famous news cable broadcasting company in Korea, came to the con to record.

Although it was the first convention in Korea, many international and Korean artists participated in the Con. 45 artists were international artists from Japan, Singapore, America, Canada, and 32 artists were Korean.
The special things that made this con brilliant were fantastic performances. We had 4 performance teams for the con. The first day, a Harmonica quartet played for the ice breaking reception. It helped artists to get to know one another more easily. The second
day, a tight rope walker team played their extraordinary performance. Every person who was there got tense, because it looked really dangerous. The team enjoyed walking on the tight rope and it was fantastic. The Third day, a belly dancer performance and piano concert made the con plentiful. The belly dancer performance was exciting and the piano concert was emotional.

The seminars were also good. We had 4 seminars at the con (You can see at the below).
There were interpreters for English and Japanese, so there was no difficulty to understand
for all artists.

1. Sean Gardner, USA (Exaggeration, Zombie Caricature)
2. Yonie Woo, Korea (Drawing at caricature Gigs abroad)
3. Tea Soo Kim, Korea (Caricature Sketching)
4. Il Whan Yoon, Korea (All about digital technique)

The Last day, we gave awards to 32 artists for the winners of competitions like speed, likeness, postcard, Korean celebrities, etc. and winners for the con. Exciting Golden Face Award was given to Tomokazu Tabata (Japan). Exciting Silver Face Award was given to Hashimoto Shinichiro (Japan). Exciting Bronze Face Award was given to Miki Saito (Japan) After the con, we went to famous tourist spots in Korea to do a caricature gig with some artists who wanted to go there. Some went to Insadong, which is a Korean traditional street, some went to Seoul tower. We had great time with all the people who were there. It was kind of a new experience for the artist.

Thank you note.
