On Dec. 22, 1991, Walt Kaye received a life-saving liver transplant at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Walt was born in Pittsburgh, PA, and left there in 1954 to serve in the U.S. Navy and later the Air Force as an illustrator. Walt attended art school in Dayton, OH after service, and worked in the art department at NCR Corp until his retirement in 1994. Since his transplant, Walt has served as president of the Miami Valley Chapter of Transplant Recipient International Organization (Trio). He also volunteers for Life Connections of Ohio and other donor organizations. Walt was married to Kay in 1960, and has three daughters. He still enjoys drawing caricatures at health fair hospitals, schools, malls and company events. Walt also illustrated the children’s book “His Only Hope… a Child’s view of Organ Donation” by Tony Huesman. He also had over 120 cartoon illustrations in the satire book “Playing Through (pronounced “thruff”) the Rough (pronounced “ruff”)” by James B. Cash.
