Lorin Bernsen discovered the joys of drawing caricatures while working at Six Flags Over Texas in 1994. Little did he know back then that what began as a mere summer job to help him pay for college would soon turn into a full-time career! After graduation in '96, Lorin continued working at theme parks, later moving on from Six Flags to Universal Studios in Orlando, FL. Other retail caricature venues he has worked at over the years include a 5-year stint at Grapevine Mills Mall in Dallas, TX (where he acted as Manager), Hulen Mall in Fort Worth, TX, the State Fair of Texas in Dallas, the Western Idaho Fair in Boise, and the San Antonio Zoo. Currently, Mr. Bernsen draws almost exclusively at numerous private and corporate events around the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
Lorin's life was forever changed, and his love for the art of caricature was further cemented upon joining the International Society of Caricature Artists (ISCA) (formerly NCN) in 1998. He has since made many, many contacts and friends within this group. Lorin's fellow artists continue to inspire him on a regular basis. They even awarded him 13th place (out of nearly 200 competing artists) for Caricaturist of the Year at the organization's Annual Convention in 2005. Mr. Bernsen is the current Secretary for ISCA, a position he has held since 2008.
Also in 2008, Lorin had the honor of being invited to show his work in Seoul, South Korea, at an exhibition which featured some of the top caricaturists from Korea, Japan, Belgium, and the United States.
Having drawn literally hundreds of thousands of people over the years, Lorin prides himself on getting a solid likeness in each drawing, and feels very privileged to do artwork for a living!
