Big Al Lopez has been drawing entertaining caricature portraits since June 1985. As a boy Al enjoyed drawing cartoons of animals. In junior high he started making funny faces of his teachers. While attending the California College of Arts & Crafts, (BFA Drawing 1985), he would sketch comedians while they performed at comedy clubs. As a result of "Texas Tim" Webb's "Designer Caricature Workshop" in 1991 Al became "Big Al". Tim said that folks will remember you more if you have a catchy moniker. In 1996, Big Al won the "Silver Nosey" award at the NCN's annual convention in Houston, Texas. In 2000 his caricature of "Atomic Jenny" was voted one of the Top Ten Caricatures of the year. Big Al's most recent work inspired by the female form is a mix of figure drawing, caricature and pin-up. He shows at galleries in San Francisco, Pleasanton and Hollywood, California. In 2003 his Foamcore Femmes were shown at Echo Gallery in Chicago.
